And seeing Peony too made my eyes all watery because she was the absolute best person in that family. however, a bit like the previous one, this novella was pretty bittersweet since we know what is going to happen before it actually does. I loved getting to see a young Cinder and more on how she adjusted to the situation she was in the beginning of the first book. In a way, I kind of wished that we had gotten this novella in Scarlet since it showed a lot of what was discussed about these characters but were never actually shown. Then she gets a granddaughter who she adores in her own special way but struggles to raise since her reunion with the person she fell in love got her involved in a super illegal and secret plan to overthrow a foreign government. She falls in love with someone that she’s not supposed to, gets pregnant, tries her best to raise the child but he ends up very questionable in the end. Her story is one that is pretty sad when you think about it. Also, just getting to see more of Michelle Benoit over the years was pretty interesting too. It was pretty neat to witness a bit of Scarlet’s backstory and how Princess Selene tied in with her childhood. Both, the old and new covers, just look so pretty 😍 That aside, here are my individual reviews for each of the novellas: Stars Above, however, is the overall winner for the prettiest cover in my opinion. I know I don’t usually talk about it, but aren’t Marissa Meyer book’s covers so freaking beautiful? Like, all of the new paperback covers for the Lunar Chronicles look so great (although I will admit that when they are placed next to each other on a shelf, the colors lowkey clash with each other). How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? How did the brooding soldier Wolf transform from young man to killer? When did Princess Winter and the palace guard Jacin realize their destinies? With nine stories-five of which have never before been published-and an excerpt from Marissa Meyer’s novel, Heartless, about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Stars Above is essential for fans of the bestselling and beloved Lunar Chronicles. The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories-and secrets-that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. Genre: YA Dystopian, Fairytale Retelling, YA Science Fiction
